Dance News 10-30-2020

Oct 30th , 2020

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a while now since I’ve done an update.  I apologize to those of you who had Halloween events that I missed updating.

The news of today is very sad.  Posted late yesterday on both the Nick’s Nightclub website and Nick’s Nightclub FB page, and reposted by many was the following message.

“Due to the ongoing health crisis, Nick's has become another casualty of the COVID19 pandemic and is no longer able to remain in business.

On behalf of Nick's owner and staff, we want to express our sincere appreciation to all our loyal customers, musical performers, and dance community for all your support throughout the years.

Thanks for the memories, and please stay safe!

take care of yourself,

Eric Dugovich”

To those of us connected with Nick’s for a long time, this is very sad.  It was our place to dance and, for me personally, a place where I taught a lot of people to dance.  It was a very sudden loss on March 17.  There were no goodbyes and all of that.  It was just gone when the bars had to close.  Unfortunately, it never got reopened and now it’s gone for good.

I hope for the best for all of my fellow dancers and friends, for the employees, and for Eric as we all move forward.  Nick’s has been missed for the last 8 months and will forever be missed by those of us who called it home for so many years.

In other news…….

  • Country By The Bay will take place on November 14 with the same rules in place as last time (reservations, temperatures at the door, questionnaires at the door, masks at all times except at your table).  We had a good time last time, and, as far as I know, no repercussions in the form of infections to trace.  Get your reservations to me as soon as you can so I can be sure everyone is safely seated.  Rich & I will start teaching at 7 as usual. Southern Winds will start at 8. Reservations: please email me at lbloyer@yahoo.com or message me on FB at Friends of Country Dance or Dancin’ with Linda. 3330 Chesapeake Beach Rd, Chesapeake Beach, MD
  • Sandy Garrish is still at Hawks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  However, the Thursdays at Cancun Cantina have been discontinued for now.  The couples just were not ready to come out yet. That situation will be reassessed in January.  She also is dancing on the Boardwalk in good weather some days and doing an occasional Facebook Live lesson.  Check Time2LiveBetter.com for more information.
  • Sharon Hume is still at the Westminster Moose on Tuesdays and the Frederick Moose on Thursdays.  Both start at 7pm.
  • Laurie Armstrong is still teaching on the New Life Church parking lot on Thursdays when weather permits.  She starts at 6:45pm and the fee is $5.  New Life Church 5502 Trin St., Alenxandria, VA 22310. Laurie usually posts on Thursdays on the Nick’s Restaurant and Nightclub Regulars FB page when she knows if there is going to be a dance.
  • The Original Cancun Cantina seems to be rolling along.  Fridays are country nights with bands and there is Halloween activity this weekend with costume contests, etc.  Band tonight is The Revival Band, and dancing with DJ music on Saturday.. They are now open on Fridays inside until 11pm.  They have Ladies Night on Wednesdays with line dance lessons by Mark Paulino and DJ Joe.  There are other kinds of dancing and music other nights of the week, as well as other music on the outside deck.  They are maintaining the rules they have to follow to remain open.  http://www.theoriginalcancuncantina.com/
  • Danielle of LineDance4You is doing occasional Facebook Live events.  I think she was doing something every other week.  I don’t have a handle on that schedule.  Check on the FB page for that.

If you know of other events taking place, please let me know.

Stay safe whatever you find to do.

Linda
